The purpose of the investigation is to cover the design and evaluation of a wire termination system capable of interconnection to a variety of multi-contact connectors such as cylindrical, rectangular rack and panel, printed circuit board, and terminal junction devices. The connective devices are to be capable of assembly and maintenance with a common tool for terminal insertion and withdrawal. In addition, the various connective devices shall be capable of reliably withstanding the environmental conditions encountered by both ground and airborne Army equipment. Primary emphasis will be directed toward a significant improvement of the reliability and maintainability of wiring systems in Army aircraft. A number of design layouts were made to illustrate some basic ideas for retaining a terminal in a wiring device. A review of these layouts has concluded in a choice of a type of dielectric and a type of metallic terminal retention that will be fabricated. A study of the style of the terminal male or female has concluded that a female terminal is the best choice. Prototype test samples are being fabricated both metallic and dielectric retention and will be evaluated according to the prepared test procedure.
