Abstract:

The report is concerned with the turbulent mixing of hydrogen jets in an axial airstream. The efficiency of mixing of swirling and non-swirling jets in terms of the angle of jet spread, and decay of maximum concentration of jet species is estimated and compared with previous work in this field. A gauge designed and developed to measure the swirl intensity produced by a small diameter injector is described. An expression for estimating the angle of jet spread is suggested and a technique for effecting rapid mixing of hydrogen in a scramjet combustor utilizing several small swirling jet injectors is described.
