The report of last quarter pointed out the need for a new cryostat for the memory crystal because of the problem of water vapor absorption causing roughness of the crystal surface. A new cryostat has been designed during this quarter to overcome that problem. Additionally, the new dewar provides a flexibility that facilitates the preparation of M sub A centers in the crystal and also makes possible certain experiments that could not be performed in the previously used dewars. Considerable time and effort has been given during this quarter to the design of the ultra-violet, room temperature, sodium fluoride memory system.
