Kinetic studies with amino acids in T. lewisi indicate valine and phenylalanine are transported by mediated processes through the same locus on the membrane. Arginine is transported through a different site. Two modes of transport are observed. At low substrate concentrations, transport is mediated. At high arginine concentrations, diffusion appears to be the primary mode of entry. Aspartic acid was not transported by the parasites during the time periods studied in the experiments. Author
