The objective of this report is to prepare and study properties of a new soluble high temperature copolymer suitable for use as a coating material. Two new 1,7-carborane compounds have been synthesized. These carboranes then condensed with 3,3- diaminobenzidine to yield a naphthylated quinoxaline-carborane copolymer. The copolymer was soluble in m-cresol, sulfuric acid, and dimethylacetamide and had an inherent viscosity of 0.36 decilitergram in m-cresol at 30 C. The polymer had a decomposition temperature of 450 C and a weight loss of only 12 at 800 C. Author, modified-PL
