Abstract:

At high frequencies the time-averaged effect of the radiation field near an antenna is to add the term a to the 2nd power E to the 2nd power r to the Coulomb potential. Its inclusion in a self-consistent Poisson-Vlasov analysis shows that a high power antenna may acquire a strong positive floating potential. Electron, ion, and potential profiles are obtained from numerical calculations and the effect on antenna impedance is discussed. Time taken to acquire positive potentials is estimated. Author
