Abstract:

Recently it has been shown by Clements and Smy that a simple theory based on space charge controlled expansion of the plasma sheath that surrounds a negatively pulsed cylindrical probe adequately accounts for the observed falloff of current with time after the onset of the pulse. In this letter the authors extend the theory to cover spherical probes and compare the theoretical currents with those measured in a seeded propane-air flame over wide ranges of probe radius, probeflame velocity, pulse amplitude, and plasma electron density.
