Coaxial Impingement of Axisymmetric Jets.

A system of axially impinging axisymmetric jets was examined experimentally using water as the working fluid. A wide range of jet Reynolds number was considered for several jet nozzle exit spacings. The location of the radial jet impact surface for a given ratio of flows from the two nozzles was found to be a strong function of the jet Reynolds number. The flow instabilities which can occur in this system of impacting jets have been grouped into two classes - axial mode and radial mode. These instabilities can offer an explanation of time dependence of the flow measured by other investigators. Author
