Abstract:

The study deals with the responses of 1250 USMA graduates from the Classes of 1963-1967 to Part I of a four part survey that was conducted in May 1970. The major purpose of the study was to gather information about the graduates in six major areas personal background perceptions of their wives feelings toward several aspects of military life development of skills in various areas perceptions of minority group problems and drug abuse attitudes toward the Army and attitudes toward items of general interest. The respondents were divided into two groups, careerists those intending to make military service a career and non-careerists those not intending to make military service a career. Statistical tests of difference between the two groups for the questionnaire items were conducted. It was found that the responses of the careerists and non-careerists differed significantly in regard to the majority of the items. This implies that the two groups can be more clearly defined by information from the six major areas of the report. Author
