Abstract:

The purpose of this report is to present the results of an investigation performed to demonstrate by experimental methods a stress analysis for a propellant grain. The experimental analysis was made using a two-dimensional plastic model. The two-dimensional photoelastic method of experimental stress analysis, as described in this report, can be used to design and optimize various structural components in the laboratory thereby greatly reducing the amount of full scale testing necessary to produce the optimized prototype hardware.
