Electromagnetic waves are capable of strong coupling to two types of modes in magnetic insulators low-frequency magnetostatic modes or Walker modes, and high-frequency spinwaves e.g., optical ferrimagnetic spinwaves. The coupling of electromagnetic waves with both types of magnetic modes has been investigated. The results obtained have been divided into two sections, according to the magnetic mode involved. The topics are magnetostatic - electromagnetic interaction and high-frequency spinwave - electromagnetic interaction.
