Abstract:

Analysis of the changes in the electron concentration in the lower E region of the ionosphere, and their association with geomagnetic field disturbances. It is shown that the daytime electron concentration increases roughly two times at 100 km and 1.5 times at 110 km at mid-latitudes for K equals 3 to 5 where K is the 3 hour index whose changes characterize in the first approximation the variations of the geomagnetic field. The intensity of the flux of the additional ionizing radiation responsible for the observed increase in electron concentration is evaluated. Author
