Abstract:

An investigation is made of the behavior of a thin elastic, flat, cylindrical shell of finite size fastened to a rigid cylindrical screen, under the influence of a plane acoustic shock wave whose front is parallel to the generatrix of the shell. The hydrodynamic pressure, acting on the surface of the shell, can be found using previous studies. The nonlinear equations of motion of the shell that make an allowance for the inertia in the radial, circumferential, and longitudinal directions, are integrated using the finite-difference method. Data are given concerning the reaction of the shell for three types of boundary conditions, and a comparison is made with previous results. Author
