Abstract:
Wall or surface interaction trauma did not result in striking or significant changes or erythrocyte ATP concentration, or 2,3-diphosphoglycerate concentration. The phosphate concentration of the suspending medium has a critical effect upon the maintenance of both ATP and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate concentration in the erythrocyte, and, secondarily, upon shifts in the oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve. A suitable device for selective shear stress damage has been constructed, and is presently in operation. Author
