This paper outlines work done in the field of stress wave propagation. Included are studies on the formation of shock fronts in tensile pulses propagated along filaments of natural rubber which have been prestretched quasi-statically, pulses generated when a brittle solid fractures, and secondary pulse generation characteristics when a stress pulse approaches a boundary between two media.
