Abstract:

A special study of the potential hazards associated with the use of four types of laser distance measuring equipment used by USATOPOCOM was conducted during February - April 1971. The equipment, used for precise distance measurements over survey lines varying between 5 and 40 km, was found to emit potentially hazardous beams intensities at a range up to 300 m even for momentary viewing. Caution distances at which to limit long-term viewing extended to 9 km. Author
