Abstract:

A number of scientific and engineering applications at Picatinny Arsenal were investigated to evaluate potential benefits which might accrue from the use of computer graphics. It was found that most of the potential applications are now being served to some extent by conventional computing methods. Many of these would benefit substantially from the interactive process afforded by the use of graphical display terminals. Four areas were proposed for initial implementation. In these areas the early benefits of computer graphics would be greatest because computer programs now exist which can perform the basic analysis, and because the programs can be adapted to graphical techniques with a reasonable amount of effort. Additional applications have been identified in which the use of graphical techniques would be extremely valuable, but would require far more extensive computer software development to support this implementation.
