Abstract:

The mathematical procedures used in the Computer Automatic Scheduling System CASS Program are described. This program was designed for automatic multisatellite ephemeris maintenance at the Real Time Computer System on the Air Force Eastern Test Range and is based principally on the ability of mean elements and their rates of change to describe the motion of a satellite. Objects whose ephemerides are to be maintained are restricted to those in stable non-equatorial elliptical orbits. Each pass of radar data is processed to produce a mean element vector by a non-linear orbit determination procedure. The mean element vectors representing the various passes are combined by polynomial fits and analytical computation to generate a multi-pass orbital solution for each object.
