Abstract:

Comparison between the contingent and the non-contingent application of biologically-relevant or primary reinforcer type events is a crucial but presently underdeveloped experimental concern within the experimental analysis of behavior. The work reported here makes some attempts at such comparisons. Studies on the effects of the experimental manipulation of painful electric shocks, delivered independent of a subjects ongoing performances, upon several distinct response classes are reviewed.
