Abstract:
Procedures are described for the design of both orifice-compensated and inherently-compensated hydrostatic gas thrust bearings. A new empirical correlation for the compensation loss in inherently-compensated bearings is presented. The analytical predictions are compared with experimental results for a number of different single inlet thrust bearings over a range of parameters. The proposed design method is general and can be applied, using appropriate load factors, to multiple inlet thrust bearings. Author
