Abstract:
The electrical conductivity of polyvinyl chloride was measured as a function of temperature over the range 30-70C before and after irradiation with 1.3-Mev gammas. Three orders of magnitude increase in conductivity were observed for the irradiated specimens after a dose of 4.8 x 10 to the 7th power Rads. Scission of the polymer chain as the dominant effect of the irradiation is postulated. Author
