The impact behavior of orthorhropic steel plates with biserrated and closed trapezoidal ribs was investigated. Orthogonal-anisotropic characteristics for a deck plate is achieved by stiffening ribs equally spaced and parallel to the span. Nine full size specimens with single or multiple ribs, serrated or closed were tested. The prime objective of the study was to find out how much energy could be absorbed by various specimens. The study was carried out so that the impact capacities of the closed and serrated multiple rib specimens could be compared with those of single rib specimens. The impact and static response of the orthotropic plates and their primary elements are discussed in detail. Author
