Thermal interactions between the atmosphere and a falling rocket-sonde bead thermistor lead to significant errors in the indicated air temperature. In the same way the bead thermistor interacts with its support. Tests were made inside a vacuum bell jar where bead thermistors and support posts were mounted in two orientations on a whirling arm. These tests were made at low subsonic motion in a free molecule flow at 2.0 and 30.0 microns of mercury pressure. Author
