Abstract:

The work is an extension of earlier studies on the application of the HMO method to the prediction of electric dipole moments and bond lengths of conjugated compounds of interest in explosives technology. The present paper records the results of calculations on phenolic compounds, including polynitroderivatives of resorcinol and phloroglucinol, important intermediates in the preparation of initiatory explosives. Predicted dipole moments and bond lengths are compared with experimental values of compounds for which data are available. Author
