Abstract:

The mechanism by which the rate of dissipation of the magnetic energy of the triplet state is accelerated by the application of magnetic field is examined, both experimentally and theoretically. It is found that the rate is proportional to the square of the magnetic field. This is in agreement with a mechanism involving the increase in energy spacing between the magnetic levels, thus requiring phonons with higher frequency. Since the phonon density is proportional to the square of the phonon frequency, the observed dependence is explained. Author
