Abstract:

Analysis and design of arrays of thin straight-wire antennas and scatterers, both loaded and unloaded, are considered. Solutions are obtained by matrix methods applied to the integro-differential equation which characterizes problems of this kind. It is shown that once the array geometry and the positions of any feed points are known both scattering and radiation problems can be handled through appropriate matrix manipulations. Linear problems in array design are discussed along with examples involving pattern synthesis and gain maximization. Nonlinear problems in array design by a gradient method are also included incorporating examples in the areas of sidelobe reduction, gain maximization, and feed system determination. Author
