Abstract:
A safe, fast, and effective solvent system has been developed for the removal of EC- 2273 encapsulant. This material, which is now showing signs of failing, is the potting compound used in several hundred components of a large number of Navy F-4 aircraft. The preferred solvent system consists of a mixture of N-methyl-2-pyrollidone M-Pyrol, benzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide and methanol. Virgin, as well as deteriorated, EC-2273 is cleanly removed from a typical electrical connector simply by immersion of the component in the solution for a period of a few hours. Author-PL
