Abstract:
Slender, conical, plane, and cambered wing-body combinations with different volume distributions have been investigated in supersonic flow. All combinations have had the same triangular planform lambda 1 and nearly the same volume. Lift, drag, and pitching moment have been determined experimentally particularly, the nonlinear lift component has been studied more closely. The influence of the volume distribution in spanwise direction has been investigated as well as the possibility of obtaining a drag reduction by suitable camber near the leading edges for a certain cruise lift coefficient. Pictures of flow patterns have given information on the flow field. Measurements of base pressures have completed the investigations. Author
