Abstract:

The aim of these investigations was to find the air blast propagation from an accidental explosion in an underground ammunition storage. In order to vary some of the most important parameters affecting the blast wave propagation, model tests in linear scale 1100 were carried out. The damping factor k is a function of various parameters, among which the tubetunnel roughness is the most important. A numerical value of k, valid for the model tests, is evaluated. The influence on the blast wave propagation by a reduction of the number of exits from 2 to 1 is also investigated. The quantitative effects of various blast traps are reported. It is found that constrictions in the main passageway are very effective blast wave attenuators. Measurements were also carried out in a simplified terrain model. Based on those measurements, a method to find the quantity distance outside an underground storage was developed for various tunnel exit geometries. Author
