Abstract:

The report summarizes the development of a general formulation applicable to physical engineering systems. An n-dimensional energy space and an n-dimensional energy-time space are used to formulate lumped parameter systems in a manner which yields the equations of motion for the system by way of geodesics of the n-dimensional spaces. Specific examples are included to demonstrate the formulation for electrical networks. The approaches presented are applicable to conservative and non-conservative lumped parameter systems. Results of the formulation are also applied to an electromagnetic wave in free space. A new approach to solutions of Eulers Equations is introduced and applied to a number of simple systems. A geometric interpretation of Riemannian spaces is presented to assist in relating physical system to geometric spaces. Author
