Real English was developed to enable natural language communication with a bibliographic information retrieval system. In its original version it consisted of a syntax analysis phase capable of handling free-form English, and a semantic analysis phase capable of processing requests for bibliographic information. The semantic analysis phase has been enhanced through the introduction of the notion of a semantic translation grammar. The semantic unit is now capable of generating, from a semantic translation grammar for a particular field of inquiry, a semantic processor capable of handling requests in the given field. In addition, several possible uses of Real English for processing both natural and formal languages are envisioned. Author
