Abstract:

The paper examines Bayes sampling procedures for determining fixed sample sizes from infinite and finite populations. Results of this examination reveal that 1 Optimal Bayesian sampling can result in a substantial cost savings provided that accurate assessments of the relative system costs are made. 2 Traditional methods of sampling from distributions formed using subjective information are promising but further mathematical analysis is needed. 3 An extensive-form Bayesian method of optimal Bernoulli sampling is used on an actual surveillance problem at NAD Crane.
