Abstract:

The paper describes the principles and construction of a simple and economically attractive bidirectional null-setting angle detector which has a sensitivity of 0.1 second of arc. The detector has a dc signal output which is proportional to the angle of rotation of a target reflector. Since this signal has a relatively fast response several kilohertz per second to any angular movement of the target the detector is capable of functioning as the sensing element in high performance closed loop control systems.
