Model investigation of the outlet works for the New Hope Reservoir was initially concerned with verification and improvement of the hydraulic design of the intake structure, conduit, and stilling basin. Subsequent tests involved observations of the effectiveness of the multilevel intakes in providing selective withdrawal of flow from the epilimnion or upper stratum of a stratified reservoir. The study was conducted in a 120-scale model of the outlet works which reproduced a portion of the approach area, the intake structure, the outlet conduit, the hydraulic-jump type stilling basin, and approximately 800 ft of exit channel.
