Abstract:
Forging of ferrite bodies of scaled-up sizes to two-inches diameter was successfully demonstrated. The excellent magnetic characteristics of forged ferrite material was maintained. Successful forge-welding of a non-magnetic gap material, in a ferrite during fabrication by forging techniques was demonstrated. This technique could eliminate the back gap reluctance associated with transducer or pick-up heads. Production costs of forged ferrite material could be significantly lower than hot pressed material due to the short times of forging compared to hot pressing. Author
