Abstract:

A beam of ions, monochromatic in composition and energy, was passed through a gas and analyzed in a magnetic field. Beams were studied which consisted primarily, of the atomic ions single-charged He, N, Ne, K, Ar, Ca, J, Ba, Beams were studied which consisted primarily, of the atomic ions single-charged He, N, Ne, K, Ar, Ca, J, Ba, Pb, Bi, double-charged N, Ar, Ba, triple-charged Ar and single-charged molecular ions H2, H3, N2. It became clear that such inelastic processes, linked to changes in the em of the ions in the beam, occur in single instances of a collision between an ion and a helium, neon. argon or krypton atom, or a hydrogen or nitrogen molecule. For single-charged atomic ions the existence of a process of breaking away of a single electron from the ion casing has been established stripping of ions. Cross-section of the process is greater for ions of heavy elements. An evaluation was carried out of the effective cross-section of the ions H2, H3, N2. Author
