An ultrasonic technique for detecting flaws near the surface in plate material has been developed. The technique makes use of pulsed surface waves in a two transducer pitch-catch arrangement. This provides greater sensitivity than a single transducer pulse-echo system. The system is used to evaluate magnetic particle indications of near-surface flaws. Author
