NAVAL CIVIL ENGINEERING LAB PORT HUENEME CALIF

Many naval activities in the shore establishment have construction and weight handling equipment procured from war surplus stocks without reimbursement. Some of this equipment creates an unnecessary upkeep burden because it is oversized, excess to actual need or not compatible with the activitys environment. A research task was initiated to determine what maintenance tasks are performed, what equipment is being used, and what equipment can most efficiently do this work. A questionnaire was prepared to obtain data but it was later decided that better information could be obtained by personally contacting bases of typical sizes and environments. A few stations were visited, but the task was cancelled before any conclusive data were collected. Author
