Abstract:

The report treats the visual display as a link in a communication channel and develops the mathematical expressions for information flow through the display. A short review of information theory is presented and a decision rule applicable to displays is discussed. Assuming that an ideal processor is used to implement the decision rule, the information flow is determined for the A-scope, PPI, and active integrating display. The results can easily be extended to other types of displays. Author
