Abstract:

The entire New Buffalo Harbor, located on the southeast shore of Lake Michigan, the proposed breakwater system, and sufficient adjacent shoreline and offshore bathymetry to permit accurate simulation of storm-wave action were reproduced in a 175-scale hydraulic model equipped with wave-generating and wave-height-measuring devices. The purpose of the model investigation was to determine the efficacy of the proposed breakwater system in providing a haven of refuge and protection for pleasure craft and fishing boats in the harbor during storm-wave action.
