Abstract:

The article discusses two kinds of hardware which usually realize sequential circuits in the first one, input and output functions are given by the position of mechanical or electromagnetic relays and, in the second one, input and output functions are sequences of electronic pulses the machines are said to be respectively under form S or T. The machine works in a synchronous or asynchronous way its operating mode is hierarchical or fundamental according to whether or not there is a timing for the transition of its states. Then the classification of the models according to their form and their operating mode leads to the definition of a new kind of automaton, called Sigma sub H, under form T and of fundamental mode this machine is related to the study of the micro and pico-programming. Similar methods applied to the stochastic case lead to the introduction of a new model Sigma sub R. Finally one explains that the introduction of these new models is justified by significant applications to the realization of the circuits of a computer, to the reliability of such circuits, and to the estimation of the switching points and calls in a program.
