Abstract:

The document consists of six parts. Part I Communist Eastern Europe and International Communism Part II Communist Eastern Europe and USSR, is an overview of the broader elements of the region, and is reflective of policies, problems and prospects involving all of the Communist States of Eastern Europe including Albania and Yugoslavia. Part III USSR and the Communist Bloc, on the other hand, is concerned specifically with strengths and weaknesses and internal and external problems and affairs of the seven members of the Warsaw Pact and excludes Albania and Yugoslavia. Part IV Invasion of Czechoslovakia, is both a chronological record and also an assessment of the wide-ranging repercussions for both East and West, arising from the Invasion. Part V Communist Eastern Europe by Country, delves into the internal picture of each of the countries of Communist Eastern Europe, but excludes USSR, because this portion of materials was covered in DA PAM 550-6 in 1969. Part VI Source Materials for Research and Reference, contains a bibliography of bibliographies of the subjects covered in parts I, II, III, IV, and V, as well as a listing of Atlases, Yearbooks, Encyclopedias and other helpful reference sources. The appendixes consisting of texts, charts, statistical tables, and maps 28, are included in support of the main body of the document. Author
