Abstract:

An improved prosthetic leg was developed for knee disarticulation amputees whose stumps have been surgically modified. The combined benefits are experimental and appear to be Permits use of total-contact, ischial bearing, quadrilateral-shaped, laminated plastic stump socket employing the suction principle for retention on the amputation stump Location of knee axis at precisely the level of the contralateral knee axis A unique knee joint design of rugged construction employing ball-bearings with adjustable clearance in each case which will hopefully eliminate much of the maintenance problem otherwise experienced by this laboratory in the use of other available unit.
