Abstract:
Nucleation of parasite crystals in front of an ice mosaic bicrystal growing vertically upwards from a solution is observed during the freezing of a dilute salt solution. It appears in the presence of a constitutionally supercooled layer ahead of a solid-liquid interface and shows a curious dependence of parasite and mother crystal on their crystallographic orientations. The formation of parasites is also observed in front of the C sub v crystals growing downwards, i.e. the crystals with the C axis being perpendicular to the solid-liquid interface. Author
