Abstract:

The COBOL program of any problem contains complete information for transcribing data blocks on tapes. A block-information collection unit BICU converts the information into a form suitable for transcribing subroutines. The routine library contains a special block input routine BIR which executes the transcribing on information supplied by the BICU. The BIR is so organized that it also can transcribe in systems not using the COBOL language. Source information for BICU is contained in a table of storage distribution TSD which is compiled by the translator. The BICU algorithm consists of two parts 1 the COBOL standard is analyzed in connection with TSD look-up and 2 the information necessary for BIR is collected and the standard is turned into a machine-acceptable form.
