Abstract:
The combination energy dissipator-irrigation diversion structure was studied in a 120-scale hydraulic model to verify and possible refine the design of the primary and secondary stilling basins, determine the discharge characteristics of the weir between the two basins and each of the two diversion sluices, and investigate qualitatively the performance of the silt sluices. The performance of the energy dissipator was improved by raising the apron of the secondary basin 5 ft and modifying the position of the baffle piers in the primary basin and the size and position of the baffle piers and end sill in the secondary basin. The capacity of the irrigation diversion sluices was found to be adequate. The hydraulic performance of the silt sluices was as anticipated, but at low discharges, fine sand was removed from the model only in the immediate vicinity of the sluice intakes. Author
