Abstract:

A previous formulation of the master equation for the dissociation of a dilute diatomic gas is extended to the nondilute case by the inclusion of V-V transitions. Using existing experimental and theoretical data for other molecules, estimates are made for the V-V transition probabilities in H2. The master equation is solved for the dissociation of a series of M-H2 mixtures at 2000K, and the results are compared with those previously obtained for the same reaction at infinite dilution.
