The investigations concerning the markers of viruses to be used for recombination or mutation experiments followed the studies carried out during the first half of this year. For the investigations, Arbovirus group A Sindbis virus was mainly used. First, biological differences between Sindbis virus, JEV, and NWS strain of influenze virus were studied. From the results, Sindbis virus was more resistant to acid pH 3 and heat than that of NWS virus. Second, a Sindbis virus mutant having a character capable of production of a large and clear plaque was obtained by passage of the virus 50 times through chorioallantoic membrane CAM tissue culture. Third, it was indicated that CAM passaged 20 times Sindbis virus had some different properties when adsorbed to cell monolayers, comparing to Sindbis chick embryo brain CEB passaged virus, i.e. CAM virus needed Mg and Ca more than CEB virus for adsorption to the cells.
