The paper describes an approach to the selection of inexpensive alternatives to fully job-relevant performance tests. Based on the concept of content validity, the approach is to utilize the skill and knowledge required of the trainee as a criterion for assessing the cost and job-relevance of fabricated alternatives to performance tests.
