An infrared nondestructive testing technique employing laser heating of the specimen was developed and evaluated on several bonded materials. Thermal images were obtained using a two-dimensional reflective scanner coupled to a 30- watt CO2 laser to irradiate the specimen and a thermal imaging camera to view the specimens irradiated surface. The technique is capable of providing a versatile, high-resolution, real-time non-destructive test for subsurface defects in large specimens.
